Karachi: In a significant breakthrough, Karachi Police conducted a successful operation in District West, dismantling a notorious inter-provincial motorcycle lifting gang. The gang included a 10-year-old motorcycle lifter, Shahzib, whose arrest was made possible through meticulous analysis of CCTV footage by SHO Gulshan Mansar.
The operation, details of which were shared by Karachi Police on their social media account on X, resulted in the arrest of six individuals, including a female suspect. Law enforcement also recovered 14 stolen motorcycles, seven chopped chassis, nine engines, and several other dismantled vehicle parts during the crackdown.
The Modus Operandi
According to police investigations, Shahzib, the 10-year-old suspect, specialized in stealing motorcycles. The stolen vehicles were then handed over to accomplices who either dismantled them or transported them to other provinces for resale. Among those arrested was a mechanic responsible for disassembling the stolen motorcycles, enabling their parts to be sold to fellow criminals.
Female suspect Zainab, along with her accomplice Mohammad Anas, played a pivotal role in transporting stolen motorcycles to Balochistan. The gang reportedly sold 70cc motorcycles, purchased for as low as Rs. 4,000-5,000, for Rs. 11,000-12,000. Larger motorcycles, such as 125cc, 110cc, and 150cc, were sold for Rs. 20,000-25,000 after being acquired for Rs. 12,000-15,000.
Arrests and Recoveries
The arrested suspects include:
- Shahzib (10-year-old lifter)
- Zainab, wife of Asadullah
- Mohammad Anas, son of Mohammad Naeem
- Hamad, Waleed, and Ghulam Sarwar
The gang’s network operated through organized storage and dismantling of stolen motorcycles. “The recovery of export motorcycles, chassis, and engines has provided significant leads, and investigations are ongoing,” said a police spokesperson.
Next Steps
The suspects are now in custody and will be handed over to the Anti-Vehicle Lifting Cell (AVLC) for further legal proceedings. The AVLC aims to trace additional stolen motorcycles and dismantle the broader network involved in such criminal activities.
Karachi Police lauded the efforts of SHO Gulshan Mansar and the investigative team for their swift action and successful recovery. “The arrest of a 10-year-old criminal highlights the concerning use of minors in such illegal activities,” a police official added.
The operation underscores the importance of community vigilance and technology in combating crime, urging citizens to report suspicious activities and ensure the safety of their property.
