Karachi: The China Asia Economic Development Association (CAEDA) has expressed keen interest in investing in Pakistan, particularly in the sectors of mines and minerals, information technology, agriculture, infrastructure development, and renewable energy. The delegation, led by CAEDA President Qian Qiu Zhu, met with the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) to explore potential collaborations and joint ventures.

Atif Ikram Sheikh, President of FPCCI, emphasized that the next phase of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) present significant opportunities for Pakistan’s economic growth. He highlighted the country’s strategic location, economic complementarities with China, and its ability to diversify its economic partners.

CAEDA, a prominent organization focused on promoting economic cooperation between China and Asia, aims to facilitate trade and investment in various sectors. Abdul Mohamin Khan, Vice President of FPCCI, noted the positive trend in bilateral trade between Pakistan and China, which has surpassed $20 billion since the implementation of the China-Pakistan Free Trade Agreement (CPFTA).

Shabbir Mansha, Chairman of FPCCI’s Pakistan-China Business Council, provided an overview of the current trade landscape, highlighting Pakistan’s exports to China, which include cotton yarn, rice, and minerals. China, on the other hand, is Pakistan’s largest source of imports, supplying products such as semiconductor devices, machinery, and fertilizers.

The CAEDA delegation expressed a desire to establish a Pakistan Zero-Tariff Trade Zone and a service center in Pakistan for Chinese imports. They also emphasized their interest in exploring investment opportunities in multiple sectors of the Pakistani economy. The meeting between CAEDA and FPCCI marks a significant step towards strengthening economic ties between the two countries and unlocking new avenues for growth and development.
