KARACHI – The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) has issued a fraud alert, warning the public about a surge in online scams targeting investors through various social media platforms. According to a recent press release, these fraudulent schemes are being promoted on platforms such as WhatsApp, Facebook (Meta), and other online forums.
Scammers are using both artificial intelligence (AI) and conventional methods to deceive potential investors. These fraudulent groups often misuse the names of legitimate professionals or claim to be affiliated with recognized companies, creating an illusion of authenticity. They may even impersonate high-level executives or present official-looking materials that feature logos and images of regulatory bodies like the PSX.
One of the most common tactics used by these scammers is to offer “guaranteed” fixed returns with little or no risk, which is often a red flag for illegal schemes. They also promise exclusive access to insider tips and specialized training on investment opportunities, further luring the public into unauthorized deals.
In many cases, these fraudsters ask victims to share sensitive personal or financial information, or even send money directly to individuals or third parties. The PSX strongly urges the public to be cautious and avoid falling prey to unsolicited investment advice from these illegal forums.
To safeguard yourself from such scams, PSX advises that all trading in shares should only be done through licensed securities brokers, approved by the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP). A full list of licensed brokers is available on the PSX website.
Stay vigilant and protect your investments by ensuring that any financial transactions are conducted through official and SECP-licensed channels.
