Pakistan’s thriving IT sector made a powerful statement at GITEX Global 2024 in Dubai, solidifying its status as the Tech Destination of the Year. Under the leadership of Sajjad Mustafa Syed, Chairman of the Pakistan Software Houses Association (P@SHA), the grand Pakistan Pavilion inauguration and the much-celebrated Pakistan Night captivated global tech leaders and innovators. These events, hosted by P@SHA in collaboration with the Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB), showcased the country’s tech prowess and set the stage for future growth in IT exports.

In his remarks, Sajjad Mustafa Syed highlighted that being recognized as the “Tech Destination of the Year” on an international platform like GITEX is a game-changer for Pakistan’s IT and ITeS industries. He emphasized that this achievement could unlock exponential growth in Pakistan’s IT exports, provided the right trade, taxation, and SME support policies are maintained.

The opening ceremony was a prestigious affair, featuring H.E. Faisal Niaz Tirmizi, Pakistan’s ambassador to the UAE, and high-ranking officials from the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC). Among the attendees were prominent figures like Muhammad Umair Nizam, Senior Vice Chairman of P@SHA, Raheel Iqbal, Vice Chairman of P@SHA, and CEOs from leading Pakistani IT companies.

Umair Nizam elaborated on the success of Pakistan Night, which brought together industry leaders, government officials, and tech innovators for an exclusive networking event. The event facilitated discussions on business partnerships, investments, and bilateral collaborations between Pakistan and the UAE, reinforcing the strong ties in various tech sectors.

Haris Naseer, the association’s treasurer, also acknowledged P@SHA’s role in driving economic growth and praised its efforts in human resource developmentDr. Sohail Munir further emphasized Pakistan’s contribution to the UAE’s digital transformation.

Raheel Iqbal noted that 80 Pakistani companies from the IT, ITeS, and hi-tech sub-sectors participated in GITEX, highlighting the creation of a tech ecosystem vital for socioeconomic growth. This strategic presence of Pakistan’s tech industry in the global arena is a significant step toward fostering innovation and economic development.

Other key speakers included Ali Zaib Khan, Trade & Investment Counselor at the Pakistan Embassy UAE, who stressed the importance of strengthening Pakistan-UAE tech relations, and Zeeshan Rehman Khattak, Acting CEO of PSEB, who provided an insightful overview of Pakistan’s booming IT industry and its milestones.

Nadeem Malik, Secretary General of P@SHA, concluded the event by emphasizing that GITEX Global 2024 has generated substantial contracts, MoUs, and B2B linkages, opening doors for future collaborations.

In his closing remarks, H.E. Faisal Niaz Tirmizi reaffirmed the importance of bilateral cooperation in emerging technologies between Pakistan and the UAE, highlighting opportunities for B2B and G2G partnerships.
