The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) marked its Silver Jubilee with a grand ceremony at its headquarters, celebrating 25 years of excellence in legal identity management and national database integration. The event witnessed the launch of Pakistan’s first Dematerialized ID Card, a revolutionary step towards digital identity.

What is a Dematerialized ID Card?

A Dematerialized ID Card is a fully digital identity card that eliminates needing a physical card. Integrated into the Pak ID Mobile Application, this digital ID allows citizens to verify their identity securely online. Digital verification systems will soon be implemented for authentication across various services under the World Bank-funded Digital Economy Enhancement Project (DEEP). The pilot project for this digital identity system will officially launch on August 14, 2025.

Historic Milestone for NADRA

President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif sent congratulatory messages to commemorate the occasion, acknowledging NADRA’s remarkable contributions. The State Bank of Pakistan issued a special commemorative coin, while Pakistan Post unveiled a postage stamp to mark this significant achievement.

Leadership Recognizes NADRA’s Achievements

President Asif Ali Zardari praised NADRA for its role in providing a unique and legal identity to citizens, strengthening the bond between the state and the people. He encouraged NADRA to continue leveraging emerging technologies to enhance efficiency and accessibility.

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif highlighted NADRA’s global standing, serving one of the largest demographic segments in the world. He emphasized the importance of digital solutions in economic growth and inclusivity, recognizing NADRA’s advancements in AI-based data integration.

Federal Minister Applauds Digital Shift

Federal Minister for Interior and Narcotics Control, Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi, lauded the Dematerialized ID Card as a major leap toward digital transformation. He emphasized NADRA’s efforts in making identity services accessible to all Pakistanis, including those in remote areas and overseas.

Silver Jubilee Event Highlights

The ceremony was graced by NADRA’s founding chairman, Major General (R) Zahid Ehsan, who reflected on NADRA’s journey from its inception to its current stature. Several dignitaries, former NADRA chairmen, board members, and government officials attended the event.

A documentary film and a book chronicling NADRA’s 25-year history were also unveiled, receiving great appreciation from attendees.

With the launch of Pakistan’s first digital ID card, NADRA has once again demonstrated its commitment to innovation and excellence, paving the way for a secure and digitized future for Pakistan.
