Mr. Atif Ikram Sheikh, President of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI), has announced a milestone partnership with the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), marking a new era of collaboration in trade and investment for Pakistan. This alliance, formed under the International Land-Sea Trade Corridor initiative, connects 17 regional, sub-regional, and economically significant countries, strengthening Pakistan’s position on the global economic stage.

The strategic alliance was solidified during a high-profile session in Chongqing, China, where Mr. Sheikh participated as a founding member. He described the collaboration as a significant breakthrough, noting its potential to explore new avenues for Pakistan in various sectors.

Expanding Investment Opportunities Across Key Sectors

The FPCCI-CCPIT partnership is set to accelerate investment opportunities across multiple industries in Pakistan, including:

  • Mines and Minerals: With Pakistan’s rich mineral reserves, this collaboration aims to attract Chinese investment, boosting exploration and development in this crucial sector.
  • Information Technology and IT-enabled Services (ITeS): Pakistan’s growing IT sector stands to gain from joint ventures and technology exchange with China, opening doors for advancement in digital innovation.
  • Agriculture and Livestock: This alliance seeks to enhance agricultural productivity through modern technology, benefiting Pakistan’s economy and food security.
  • Food Processing and Storage: By collaborating on food processing and storage technologies, Pakistan and China can improve food security and reduce post-harvest losses.
  • Infrastructure Development: With China’s expertise in infrastructure, Pakistan anticipates new development projects that can bolster trade logistics and industrial growth.
  • Renewable and Alternative Energy: The alliance will focus on sustainable energy projects, essential for both nations as they work towards greener energy solutions.

A Historic Achievement for Pakistan on the International Stage

Mr. Sheikh emphasized that this partnership reflects Pakistan’s proactive approach to fostering international relations, adding that FPCCI’s role as a founding member signifies Pakistan’s commitment to global economic integration. “This is an important achievement for Pakistan on the international stage,” Mr. Sheikh remarked, underscoring the opportunities this alliance offers for cross-border trade and economic expansion.

A Strong Delegation Represents Pakistan

The FPCCI delegation, which included Mr. Malik Sohail Hussain, Chairman of Coordination, FPCCI, and Mr. Karim Aziz Malik, Chairman Capital Office, FPCCI, engaged with Chinese counterparts at the alliance’s first session. The delegation’s participation highlights Pakistan’s dedication to creating a sustainable partnership, which is expected to generate significant economic benefits for both countries.

Boosting Bilateral Relations through the Land-Sea Corridor

The International Land-Sea Trade Corridor initiative, of which the FPCCI and CCPIT alliance is a part, focuses on facilitating seamless trade and economic connectivity across Asia. By integrating Pakistan into this corridor, FPCCI aims to capitalize on emerging trade opportunities that leverage both land and sea routes, making Pakistan a central player in regional commerce.
