In a significant development for Pakistan’s business community, Atif Ikram Sheikh, President of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FPCCI), has been elected as Vice President of the Confederation of Asia-Pacific Chambers of Commerce & Industry (CACCI) for the 2024-26 term. The announcement was made during the 38th CACCI Conference held in Singapore. Sheikh was also appointed Head of the CACCI Budget Commission, further enhancing Pakistan’s representation in this influential trade organization, which spans 27 countries across the Asia-Pacific region.

Following his election, Mr. Sheikh extended an invitation for CACCI’s 2025 conference to be held in Pakistan, an offer which was warmly accepted by member countries. This upcoming event is anticipated to be a milestone in Pakistan’s journey toward greater economic collaboration and trade growth, marking an important opportunity to showcase the country’s business potential on the world stage.

Highlighting CACCI’s role, Mr. Sheikh emphasized its economic weight: the alliance of 27 member nations has a collective GDP worth trillions of dollars. He underscored the potential benefits for Pakistan, particularly in enhancing trade, investments, joint ventures, tourism, and partnerships between chambers of commerce across countries.

As a panelist at the Asia-Pacific Economic Forum session on “The Future of Trade: Digitalization, E-commerce, and Cross-Border Collaboration,” organized by the Singapore Manufacturing Federation, Mr. Sheikh discussed key trends shaping the future of trade. He focused on Pakistan’s burgeoning e-commerce industry, digital transformation, and the need for stronger business collaborations between countries to boost economic growth and resilience.

In his remarks, he encouraged CACCI members to consider a stronger geo-economic partnership between Asia-Pacific and South Asia, leveraging the region’s emerging multilateral trade opportunities. His role as Vice President of CACCI is seen as a major achievement for Pakistan’s trade sector, earning accolades from government officials, business leaders, and diplomats who recognize it as a step toward strengthening Pakistan’s position in global trade.
