Bomb explosion near Karachi Airport kills one, injures five in convoy attack.
KARACHI: A powerful bomb explosion shook the area near Karachi Airport’s signal Sunday night, leaving one person dead and five others injured. The blast, during off-peak traffic hours, targeted a convoy carrying foreign delegations traveling along Airport Road.
According to sources, the convoy was transporting foreign delegates from China and Thailand. A delegation from China, consisting of 44 people, had arrived from Beijing, while another delegation of 17 had just arrived from Thailand.
The explosion caused severe damage to multiple vehicles, including police and Rangers’ mobiles. Among the injured were Rangers Captain Usman, Officer Mazhar, and a policeman who were part of the convoy’s security team. Rescue teams quickly responded, moving the injured to nearby hospitals for urgent medical attention.
Eyewitnesses reported hearing a loud blast followed by scenes of chaos as the impact caused vehicles to catch fire. The area has since been sealed off by law enforcement agencies as forensic teams and bomb disposal squads continue their investigations.
Authorities have yet to confirm the group responsible for the attack, but security has been heightened across the city in response to this incident. The Karachi Airport Road is a major route often used by diplomats and foreign dignitaries, raising concerns about the safety of such convoys.
Investigations are ongoing, and further updates are expected as the situation develops.
According to a report, the Baloch Liberation Army has claimed responsibility for the blast.
