Karachi: In a vibrant display of community spirit and commitment to heart health, the Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH) successfully organized two major events: the “Mini Marathon” and the “World Heart Day Ride.” These events were held to celebrate World Heart Month and aimed to raise awareness about cardiovascular health and encourage a more active lifestyle.

The “Mini Marathon,” a 3.2 km run, attracted over 400 participants, including AKU students, faculty, staff, and community members. The event was marked by enthusiasm and a shared commitment to heart health, symbolized by the red attire worn by participants.

Dr Sulaiman Shahabuddin, President and Vice-Chancellor of Aga Khan University, expressed his support for the event, emphasizing the hospital’s dedication to community well-being. “Events like these are a powerful reminder for everyone to embrace a healthier lifestyle,” he said.

Following the Mini Marathon, AKUH organized the “World Heart Day Ride,” a cycling event that brought together over 600 participants. The ride started from the AKU Sports and Rehabilitation Centre and took cyclists through various parts of the city.

Dr Saulat Fatimi, Section Head of Cardiothoracic Surgery at AKUH, highlighted the importance of early heart disease detection and prevention. “Activities like these help raise awareness about heart health and encourage regular checkups,” he said.

Both events concluded with a celebratory breakfast at the AKU Sports Centre. These initiatives reflect AKUH’s ongoing commitment to promoting healthy living and disease prevention within the community. By organizing such events, the hospital aims to empower individuals to take charge of their health and reduce the risk of heart disease.
