The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has announced an exciting opportunity for the city’s residents with a passion for storytelling and filmmaking. A unique short documentary film contest, titled “Karachi,” is set to engage the local community in a creative and informative venture.
The contest invites Karachi’s citizens to explore and present the multifaceted aspects of their city, ranging from its rich history and vibrant culture to the complexities of urban life. The aim is to produce documentaries that shed light on inspiring and informative topics about Karachi, increasing awareness and appreciation among the public.
Competition Details and Prizes
Participants are encouraged to submit documentaries lasting between five (5) to fifteen (15) minutes, with the deadline for entries being February 20, 2024. The competition boasts an impressive prize pool, with the first prize winner receiving Rs.10 lakh, followed by Rs.8 lakh for the second place, and Rs.5 lakh for the third.
Eligibility and Guidelines
This contest is open to all citizens of Karachi, offering a platform for amateur filmmakers and enthusiasts. Notably, professional video and movie filmmakers are excluded from participation, ensuring a level playing field for non-professionals.
Entries must be original and free from plagiarism. Participants can choose to create their documentaries in either English or Urdu. While creativity and innovation are encouraged, the content should steer clear of self-promotion, political bias, and immoral themes. The use of smartphones or any digital recording device is permitted, making the contest accessible to a wide range of participants.
Judging and Awards
A panel of experts in relevant fields will review all submissions received by the deadline. The decision of this committee will be final and binding, and no appeals will be entertained in any court.
The winners of the competition will be announced on a significant national day, Pakistan Day, on March 23, 2024. Apart from the cash prizes, winners will also receive certificates, adding to the prestige of the accolade.
