As part of its dedication to a multi-pronged strategy to combat disinformation on the site, the famous short video-sharing app TikTok has issued its latest Community Standards Enforcement Report for Q4 2022 (October-December 2022). The report is evidence of the platform’s continued effort to gain users’ trust through transparency and providing a secure and friendly environment.

The total number of videos deleted from TikTok around the world in the fourth quarter of 2022 was 85,680,819, which was approximately 0.6% of all the videos published to the platform. The automation process resulted in the deletion of 46,836,047 recordings, while only 5,477,549 videos were successfully restored.

In the fourth quarter of 2022, Pakistan witnessed 12,628,267 videos taken down because they broke Community Guidelines. In addition to removing accounts that broke the Community Guidelines, the platform also removed spam accounts and the spam videos that were posted by those accounts. It also took measures to stop spam accounts from being made automatically.

In Pakistan, 89.7% of offensive videos were taken down before they were seen by the public in Q4, and 95.5% were taken down within a day. Q4 2022 proactive removal rate was 98.8%. Also, in Q4 2017, 17,877,316 accounts were deleted worldwide due to age verification issues associated with users under the age of 13. The fourth quarter also saw the deletion of 54,453,610 spam accounts.

The goal of the TikTok Community Guidelines is to ensure that everyone has a positive and safe experience on the platform. TikTok aims for uniformity and fairness in the application of its policies, which it says apply to all users and all material.

To find, review, and remove anything that breaks the rules of the platform, TikTok employs a mix of cutting-edge technological tools and human reviewers. Each quarter, the platform compiles a report called Community Guidelines Engagement that details how much content and accounts have been deleted. The whole report for the fourth quarter of 2022 is available in the TikTok Transparency Centre.
